Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, takes place specifically from the 8th to the 12th day of the last month of the Islamic calendar. All Muslims, who are physically and financially able to do so, are required to participate in Hajj at least once in their lifetime.
God has a pattern of choosing the people whom the world would never choose. For instance, take Ishmael. God chose him even though his birth was not in line with God's plan for Abraham and Sarah. But Ishmael is the perfect example that the circumstances of one's birth do not affect who one is, or how God sees His creation. On two separate occasions, God sent an angel to Hagar, Ishmael's mother, and prophesied a blessing on his life.
On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress met in Philadelphia and accepted the final draft of an important document, the Declaration of Independence, which declares that ALL men are created equal and have basic rights given by God. The purpose of having a governmental institution is to protect those basic rights, which Thomas Jefferson defined as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ? In simple terms, it means to be a follower or student of a leader or philosopher. To be a disciple of Christ means we study His life on earth and try our best to imitate it. Christianity is really that simple—look at Christ and follow His example. However, after one reading of the Gospels, we quickly discover living a life like Christ is impossible in our own strength.
Many of us will celebrate Father’s Day by honoring beloved fathers or men who are father figures in our lives. Traditionally, we’ll honor these men by presenting them with gifts and sentimental cards. Some of us may even have cookouts and family gatherings. This day is a great opportunity for us to recognize and remember the importance of fatherhood.
